Dr. Manisha Javeri is an Associate Professor at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). Her background is in Physical Chemistry and has taught at the University in Mumbai, India before moving to U.S.A in 1999. She joined CSULA in 2003 after completing her Ph.D in Educational Technology from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. Her philosophy of education has evolved over the years of teaching experience (almost 22 years) both and has an influence of both the eastern and western culture. Some of these educational thinkers that have influenced her philosophy of education are, Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, and Rabindranath Tagore (from east) and John Dewey, Plato and Rousseau (from west). She is also the recipient of Rotary the World Peace Fellow award (2010) and represented Rotary LA5 at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand Education, she believes should be the one that helps in all round development of body, mind and soul. True education aims at not only intellectual, moral and spiritual development but also makes our life in harmony with all existence. This can happen in an environment where the student and teacher are co-learners. Learning should be meaningful and related to real life situations, which impacts the learner and its surroundings. Her lifelong passion is to teach students’ from a diverse cultural background and incorporate the essence of different cultures into her classes. Her main research interests are to integrate technology in designing and developing humanitarian interventions around the world. She has developed several where the students participate in solving real world problems and designing technology based interventions. Some of the interventions that students have developed are: HIV/AIDS training manuals for the teenagers in Mozambique, Micro-financing and business plans for the women caregivers in Africa, E-learning course modules for the University of Unilurio in Mozambique, Solar cooking and training manuals and videos for the women in Mozambique. Dr. Hyun holds Ph.D in Curriculum & Instruction from the Penn State University, University Park, PA, USA (1995). Prior to becoming Dean of CCOE, Dr. Hyun was Associate Provost at the University of Massachusetts Boston (2008-2013) and led the Office of International and Transnational Affairs. Previously, she also served as Department Chair of Curriculum & Instruction at UMass Boston (2007-2008), Interim Chair, Program Director and Co-Director for various graduate (Ph.D & Ed.D) and undergraduate programs in teacher education, curriculum studies, K-12 leadership, and higher education administration at the Kent State University, Ohio (2001-2007). She was one of the founding faculty members of the Florida Gulf Coast University, Fort Myers, FL, USA, established in 1997 (1997-2001). Dr. Hyun started her first tenure track faculty position, as assistant professor, at the Clarion University, Pennsylvania (1995-1997). She is originally from Seoul, S. Korea with B.S. and M.A. in Early Childhood Education from Duksung Women’s University. She came to this country in 1987 and became US citizen in 2000.

The name of this segment comes from the title of her third book (a work in progress), RECIPES FOR LIFE, and is also the title for the DVD series which focuses on all the ingredients needed for a truly sustainable lifestyle. Anew DVD featuring Dorit titled: Beyond Raw: A Philosophy was released on Amazon.com. and isavailable in Canada.Adding variety to her work as a Certified Living Foods Chef, Dorit was a workshop leader for a medically supervised Cleansing and Detoxification Retreat at the Fox Hollow Clinic and Spa inKentucky. As a Certified Movement Analyst/Therapist, she was the innovator and founder of the MovementTherapy Department at Canyon Ranch Spa in the Berkshires where she introduced Pilates & Gyrotonics and under her direction, this department became the most financially profitable department of Canyon Ranch. She built a steady and loyal following which included Donna Karanand Yoko Ono.She also created and taught the most attended yoga class at the New York Health & Racquet Club in NYC. (Most times there was a queue outside the classes). She was also the gym floor manager at the NY Health & Racquet Club’s 56th] practice with Schmuel Tatz (PT, Body Tuning) at Carnegie Hall where she taught Pilates, Yoga, Laban Movement Studies, Postural Analysis , Bartenieff Fundamentals and Developmental Movement ( Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen She was also co-Director and the lead teacher trainer of the Lotte Berk Method in NYC. Recently, Dorit founded and organized the Green Lifestyle Film Festival, a non profit, which seeks to change the vision and use of films from violence ridden and demeaning subjects and material, to uplifting, educational and motivational works of art.She also is a regular workshop presenter at the annual Bioneers By The Bay Conference in New Bedford, Massachusetts, teaches workshops at Whole Foods Markets, across the USA and at Erewhon Natural Foods Market in Los Angeles where she presently resides and was the keynote speaker in December for the Toronto Raw Vegan festival in Canada. Through her company,Serenity Spaces, she runs a catering business and is a private chef. She recently created the menu, and trained the staff, for a Rudolf Steiner based café called ELDERBERRIES on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, California which was opened in October of 2009, for those who wish to add more live, nutrient packed high energy foods to their diet. She is a Certified Chopra Center Educator specializing in LifeSkills Coaching which includes meditation, Hatha Yoga, teaching Non Violent Communication and created a workshop on healing eating disorders through emotional, mental and physical work.(*The Sacred Art of Eating Dorit is the personal Chef and Wellness Coach to the tennis pro Serena Williams and her client list includes such luminaries such as Marla Gibbs (best known for her role on The Jeffersons), Debra Wilson (longest running cast member of MadTV & films such as AVATAR) and Andy Dick (Comedian).
In 2004, Dorit shot a pilot for TV release called The UN-Cooking Show, and in August 2009 shewas the featured chef for another TV pilot, now awaiting syndication. She is presently touring theUnited States and Canada to promote the message of Conscious Eating and the healing powerof Yoga Asanas & chanting and to bring high energy and healing foods into the forefront.
